Ben T

05/08/02

5 yrs

Ben originally came through to us as a stray, he had picked up a bad gastric infection. Through no fault of his own Ben has had 3 foster homes, but is now very settled and has had his first holiday at the seaside.

1/03

Duke

25/01/03

8 yrs

Owner moving to a new job in a different town where she was not allowed dogs. Duke was very poorly over Christmas 2006 but is better now.

Sadly Duke passed away August 2008 aged 14 years, whilst on holiday. Sadly missed by all his family. Thanks to Mrs Coates for giving him such a lovely home and to Park Vets in Sheffield for all their care.

2/03

Seal

18/10/03

9 yrs

Seal originally came in with his mother when his owners were going sailing round Britain. After spending some time in kennels he was eventually offered a home with a family who own a pet and were in a good position to handle his gluten free diet.

Unfortunately Seal went off his back legs and had to be put to sleep in March 2009. We would like to thank Ruth and Steve for all the care they took of him and for helping him to reach the grand old age of 14 years.

3/03

Errol

--/--/03

6 yrs

Original owners were emigrating and were advised not to take Errol as he suffered from epilepsy. He is no longer on medication for this condition and leads a very happy life.  Unfortunately his first carer died but we have found another good home for him and he has settled in very well.  His new owner says "Errol has brought so much fun and laughter into our lives. Everyone loves him".

Unfortunately Errol was taken ill in May 2009 and as he was in considerable pain his carer gave him peace. We would like to thank them for taking Errol on when his first carer died and for giving him so much pleasure whilst he was with them. They miss him so much.

1/04

Jimmy

21/04/04

8 yrs

Originally came in with his mother when their owner was moving into accommodation where dogs were not allowed. Happy dog who used to love playing football.  Jimmy is now on Vivitonin to help with his old age.

Sadly age caught up with Jimmy and he was given rest in May 2009. Reunited with his mother. Thanks to June for all her care.

2/04

Lucky

22/10/04

8 yrs

Lucky has a liver condition and so was unwanted by his previous owner.  His bed used to be a drawer but he now lives in a home where he is loved and cared for and gets all the medical attention he needs.

Sadly Lucky was taken ill at the beginning of 2009 and had to be put to sleep to save him from suffering. This was a very traumatic time for his carers and we would like to thank Alan for all he has done for Lucky – we know that he feels that he has lost his best pal.

3/04

Emma

--/12/04

12 yrs

Emma was a rescue dog but when her owner could no longer keep her he did not want her to go back to that rescue centre and we were asked if we could help. We were able to find Emma a new home and she still enjoys walks in her local park.

Emma lived a very full life right up to the end when she eventually went off her legs. Given rest – October 09.

1/05

Marley

07/05/05

10 yrs

Marley came through another rescue so we don’t have much information on him.  He settled very well into his new home where he is very much part of the family.  Marley still has a good quality of life.

Unfortunately Marley has been very ill and his owner and vet felt that he was suffering.  He was given rest at the end of January 2009.  He will be sadly missed!

1/06

Ruby

16/01/06

7 yrs

Another baby meant that Ruby’s family could no longer give her the attention she needed. She now lives at the seaside and leads a wonderful life with her doting carer.

2/06

Jill

11/02/06

12 yrs

Jill’s owner had gone into care and neighbours could not give Jilly the attention she needs. She has a home where she is loved and has wonderful vets who look after her.

Jill overcame many medical problems but eventually her vets could do no more for her.  Given rest Sept 09.

3/06

Cassie

04/04/06

8 yrs

Came in as a stray, which was unbelievable as she is such a lovely dog. Has made a big difference to her new owner who is very fond of her.  Fit and healthy dog.

4/06

Gemma

09/05/06

10 yrs

These two litter sisters were taken into foster care when their original owner died.  Both girls live with the same carers where they enjoy walks in the nearby woods.

Gemma had been ill for some time but in October 09 her vets felt that her quality of life was not good and she was given rest.

5/06

Jess

09/05/06

10 yrs

6/06

Molly

23/09/06

10 yrs

Molly had been re-homed by another rescue but when her owner’s ill health prevented him from being able to look after Molly he asked us if we would help.  She enjoys her new home and settled in very quickly.  Although she was not supposed to get on with cats she now lives alongside of one.

Molly went off her legs and was unable to walk.  Given rest October 2009.  Thanks to her carer for paying all her vet bills.

7/06

Mollie

13/12/06

7 yrs

Mollie was on medication for arthritis when she was handed over to us so she went out as a foster dog. She has a lovely home where she is much loved and a wonderful veterinary practice who look after her.

8/06

Barney

20/12/06

9 yrs

Barney's new owner is delighted with him.  He has settled in well and often spends time with friends who were so impressed with him they offered a home to one of our other foster dogs.

Barney was put to sleep at the end of May 2008 to save further suffering. He developed cancer of the mouth. We would like to thank his carer for giving him such a wonderful home.

1/07

Toby

26/01/07

12 yrs

Both of Toby’s owners were ill and so they could no longer look after him.  It took us some time to find him a home but he is now very settled with his carer and enjoys getting out and about.

Sadly, Toby was given peace on 06/12/08, he is sadly missed by all who knew him.

2/07

Mandy

12/02/07

9 yrs

Mandy originally came through to us when her owner went into care and lived with Errol until their carer died. She now lives in Glossop where she has settled in well and has a lovely home and has wonderful vets to look after her.

3/07

Blue

10/02/07

10 yrs

Blue’s owner had left the family home and no-one was able to look after him.  He now lives in the North East, not far from the seaside.  He has lots of friends and enjoys living with his young family.

4/07

Ben B

16/07/07

10 yrs

Ben has only 3 legs as he lost one of his back legs in a road traffic accident over 5 years ago.  He came to us when his owner’s health prevented him from looking after Ben.  He has a good life where he is devoted to his new carer.

Ben became stiff in his back leg and so found it hard to get up and walk.  Given rest in the summer of 2009.

5/07

Jasmine

28/07/07

10 yrs

When one of our foster dogs sadly had to be put to sleep her carers were keen to help another older dog.  When we told them about Jasmine and Ellie they told us that they would be happy to take both of them on.  They enjoyed lots of holidays, sadly Ellie died in November 2007, but Jasmine is still a happy and contented dog.

Jasmine had cancer and was given peace October 2009.

6/07

Phoebie

27/08/07

10 yrs

The owner of these two lovely girls sadly died and there was no- one in the family that was able to take them on.  A lovely couple felt so sorry for these two old girls that they offered them a home together.  They have settled in very well and have a wonderful home.

After being ill for some time Georgie was given peace October 2009.

7/07

Georgie

27/08/07

10 yrs

8/07

Ben S

10/08/07

8 yrs

His previous owners abandoned Ben when they moved house. We soon discovered why as he has lots of problems with his joints.  He now has a home where he is much loved and has wonderful vets to look after him.

Sadly, Ben had to be given rest on 22/11/08. His carers miss him dreadfully.  Out of pain at last.

9/07

Ebony

20/09/07

10 yrs

We took Ebony on from another rescue who were finding it hard to re-home her.  She was taken on by one of our carers who had unfortunately had to have her own dog put to sleep.  This lady tells us that the likeness to one of her previous dogs is quite uncanny.

Ebony has been on borrowed time for the last few months and sadly the decision has had to be made to give her rest – July 2010.

10/07

Jasper

22/10/07

9 yrs

When Jasper came on to our books we already had a family who were looking for an older dog so he didn’t have a long stay in kennels.  He settled into his new home very quickly and he was soon part of the family, who tell us that he is very well behaved. He has needed some dental work doing but seems to be quite fit and healthy.

11/07

Penny

09/11/07

10 yrs

Due to illness in the family Penny’s owners could no longer give her the attention she needs.  She was rather overweight when she came in and was a bit unsteady on her legs.  She has now started to lose weight, enjoys an amble around the garden, and will go for a short walk.  She is a very undemanding and loving bitch who fetches her new dad’s slippers.  She is now affectionately known as Penny Pudding.

Sadly Penny had to be put to sleep in May 2009 as she went off her back legs. She enjoyed 18 months with her carers and was a happy girl who is sadly missed. Thanks to the Hoylands for helping Penny to loose weight and lead a more active life.

1/08

Jasper

09/11/07

10 yrs

Jasper came through to us as his owner was moving house and was unable to take him with her.  He is a large dog with a massive head and the most gentle personality.  He now lives in North Yorkshire where he has two other dogs to play with.  His carer says that he has such a lovely nature and she wouldn’t be without him.

Jasper had a number of strokes but eventually went off his legs and his carer felt that he had no quality of life.  Given rest summer 2009.

2/08

Monty

09/11/07

10 yrs

Monty is a very pleasant chap.  He is now settled in his foster home and is doing very well.  He is very affectionate and loves to play.

Monty developed a cancer that spread very quickly and so was given peace in Spring 2009.

3/08 Pip 25/11/08 10 yrs Pip is a Collie X Labrador.  We took him on as no-one was able to help when a member of the family became allergic to him; we felt that he was too nice a dog to be put to sleep.  He was hard to find a home for as he isn’t a Labrador, but is now settled in his new home where he certainly doesn’t act his age.

1/09 Bonny 13/03/09 11 yrs Bonny's owner had had her from a puppy so it must have been very hard for to have to give her up.  However, Bonny has fallen on her feet and now lives in Scotland with a lovely family who have fostered for us before.  She is very fit and healthy for her age and is enjoying her new surroundings.

2/09 Remus 04/05/09 9 yrs A change of circumstances had resulted in Remus having to spend more time with children, which he didn’t seem to enjoy and we were told that he was grumpy with them. When he was collected we noticed that Remus didn’t seem to walk very well and didn’t seem good on his back legs.  A visit to the vets was arranged and X-rays showed that the last vertebrae in his spine had almost fused.  No wonder he was grumpy!  With medication to help the pain Remus has settled in well in his new home where he is already a firm favourite.

3/09 Bart --/11/09 11 yrs Bart came through to us when his owners became too ill to walk him.  He was very overweight (68kg) but managed to slim down to 58kg within the first month in his new home.  He is now attending hydrotherapy and enjoys 3 short walks with his new Dad.

4/09 Alfie 14/05/09 9 yrs Alfie was found straying and although the dog wardens were able to locate his owner through his microchip he was unwanted. He had a large lump on his leg, which proved to be a tumour. Alfie had to endure a big operation to have the tumour removed but he is now enjoying a good quality of life even though he isn’t able to go for long walks.
5/09 Bella 02/07/09 12 yrs Came to us when her owner had to move into accommodation where dogs were not allowed. She is very fit and healthy and certainly enjoys a walk. Bella has gone to a family who adopted Emma from us and the two dogs get on together although they ignore each other most of the time.
6/09 Martha 01/09/09 6 yrs Martha is an unclaimed stray so we don’t know exactly how old she is. We do however, know that she suffers form arthritis and perhaps this is why her owner didn’t come forward to claim her. She is a very loving dog and has gone to live with a couple that have fostered for us before.
7/09 Tilly 10/12/09 9 yrs Tilly joined us when her owner had to emigrate and was unable to take her with her. Tilly has epilepsy but this is controlled with medication. She is a little stiff at times but is quite fit for her age and enjoys life in her new home.

Tilly was experiencing fits and was given rest on May 21st 2010.  She will be sadly missed by her owners Mr. and Mrs. Thompson.

8/09 Chomsky 14/12/09 9 yrs Chomsky has lived abroad for part of his life but changes in family circumstances meant that he couldn’t be given the care and attention that he deserves. He is very fit and is enjoying his new home where he enjoys joining in the grand children’s games.
1/10 Lucy   13 yrs The lovely family who collected Lucy from her previous home felt that she was far too old to stay in kennels whilst a foster home was found for her so the offered to short term foster her. The rest, as they say, is history. She has settled in well with Harley and her new family.
2/10 Tess     Tess came to us because her owner had to work long hours and was unable to give Tess the time and attention that she needed. Tess has made such a difference to the life of her new carers giving them a reason to get out and about. She has proved to be a devoted companion and is fit and healthy for her age.

3/10 Holly

Holly and Duke had always lived together but when their owner’s house was badly damaged in an arson attack their owner had to go and live with a relative and was unable to take them with her.

Holly is a very loving little girl and is enjoying the individual attention that she gets in her new home. She is fit and healthy.

4/10 Duke     Duke has always had a slight problem with his hip joints and may also have suffered from smoke inhalation. His new carers have worked wonders and Duke has already lost weight and is enjoying steady daily walks.

5/10 Shadow

Shadow is another dog that joined us when her owner went abroad. She has joined a family who have previously fostered dogs for us. She has settled in well and is starting to enjoy some gentle walks around the local park.

Our sincere thanks go to the wonderful people who care for these dogs.
